#28826 You can always install specific version by entering it's URL in Arduino preferences.
URLs look like this:
http://arduino.esp8266.com/versions/1.6.5-1106-g8253b82/package_esp8266com_index.json
Substitute the version number with the one you want.

#28841 For what it's worth I've found it very useful to use the portable method in the IDE. http://m.instructables.com/id/Portable- ... E-v165-fo/

I just symlink various portable folders stored elsewhere to the IDE, redownload the latest staging, symlink in the libraries folder and I'm up and running in a few min. It takes seconds to revert the whole IdE to any previous version. :x
