Calling all GURUs to add an ESP to Costco Plug

Looking for help in integrating an ESP into the circuit in the photos. The device is a wireless (not WIFI) plug. They come in a 3 pack with 1 remote form Costco around $20. On the inside of this device there is a small board with a relay on it. The mains voltage is dropped to 24VDC initially and then to around 5VDC to control the ICs. The relay coil is controlled by a NPN transistor at 24V and 5V. The part I don’t know is the chip U1 and U11. I guess that U1 is another type of transistor as it outputs 5V to the NPN and also on another pin to a status LED. U11 is for the wireless I guess. When you first plug in the device it goes into a sync stage for the remote (blinking LED) and then just works On (LED on) and Off (LED off). Can anyone recognize the 2 U chips? I tried shorting the NPN to 5V but it seems to shutter on and off sometimes and other times just turn on the relay.
Anyone out there a super electronics guru?
I know that I will need 3.3V to power the ESP. Hope to tap off the 5V with another regulator.
Thanks in advance.
Here are the photos they are in a google drive.
