Still work in progress but have a working prototype of the new design. Added a custom made color 0.95" oled display to the along with a microSD that stores the icons. Because of the bulky display and SD libraries there was not enough room for the sketch on the 32u4 processor. Switched to the Teensy 3.1 and had a bit of trouble because of the faster processor but Paul and Manitou at the Teensy Forum helped me out.
I'll post the design files and code shortly.

Cool The display is interesting but it plays music right? I'll have one of those

I would send that display back as faulty with music like that

Nice display can you no try and run this on an ESP? what is the display interface?

The display has a SSD1331 interface. Adafruit sells similar displays.
