I want to do electronic beamfomring using ESP8266. I'll need to have an antenna array and be able to do the needed adjustment in phases. I was wondering if anything like this is even possible.

.... i dont know if you think you can control phase/ etc of the 2.4G...or polarization, frequency, s/n and open band, purpose, commercial applications and fcc, etc............ all that aside, i think the "idea of beam forming" would be interesting.........i think 3 vertical dipole antenna at the proper separation per wavelength, spaced radially at 120 degrees apart could be effective to shape the nodes...i just thought that years ago...any references you have would be appreciated...got to be something in the urrl literature...or ol 73' magazine..
