Mongoose OS - is it a good option for ESP8266?

It seems that it offers quite a lot of convenience features, especially easy OTA and Google IoT integration, etc. But I of course would loose flexibility of Arduino and the wast amount of libraries available for it. Also it kind of seems judging from the github commit frequencies of various related repos and long open issues that Mongoose OS might be abandoned or at least not maintained that much. Any opinions or experiences? Thanks!
