How to set a static IP on ESP-12E using ArduinoIDE 1.6.5

I've been messing around with the NodeMCU breakout board which uses the ESP8266-12E chip.
I've been trying to find a way to set a static IP-adress on this chip without any luck so far. I've been looking around for hours and hours. I've found a lot of great suggestions, but nothing seems to do the trick, no matter what i do the module receives a dynamic IP-adress.
So i am wondering of anyone here knows of a way to do this that they know works in arduino IDE 1.6.5?
