ESP "programmer" from eBay with HL-340 converter

I bought this one from eBay for just $ 1.66:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/112034356417?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

It contains a "1a86:7523 QinHeng Electronics HL-340 USB-Serial adapter" and for serial comms it works. But it's no use for programming, it doesn't seem to connect the DTR and RTS lines to GPIO0 and RST lines, so it can't really program the chip.

Anyone have experiences, workarounds?

In the meantime I'll keep using my own "creation" which isn't pretty but works :)

If the design doesn't take care of DTR/RTS, it is a bit a shame !
But since SO16 is pretty accessible, you can add small wires.

Yes, it makes it pretty useless this way :( I hoped it would be a complete "solution". Fortunately I still have my own version, werks pretty well but doesn't look that nice ;)

BTW I don't think just connecting the DTS/CTR lines through will work, or at least it will be flimsy. The lines should control a transistor that pull the ESP's lines low (or not).

Yes, with transistors, glued on the bottom side, wired like the Wemos-D1 for example.
