New memory arrived! New memory won't fit
The only memory I've found is W25Q80DVSNIG (1MB) from Digikey @$.31 - The 8-SOIC (0.154", 3.90mm Width) is the killer. The 25Q64 and 25Q128 was 8-SOIC (0.209", 5.30mm Width). I found some 25Q16 2MB but they are discontinued or Digikey only sells 3K at minim. Now that I know 8-SOIC comes in two sizes, different voltage levels and different speeds I know what to look for.

Have the W25Q128FVSIG on order from aliexpress, which should fit (it's the same code as other smaller capacity flash I've ordered before and fits):

Not arrived yet though so can't guarantee it'll work.

I have successfully upgraded esp-01 and esp-07 to the 4MB (32Mbit) variant of this chip.

All those Wide-SOIC-8 fits if you bend the pins and solder them carefully.

I purchased a pair of " Magnifying Glasses" https://goo.gl/BxUoXs to do this small work, don't waste your money. The " Magnifying Glasses" work if the object is 10mm from the lens.... Other than that everything is way out of focus. I have one of the old Fluorescent bulb based arm magnifying lamp but wanted something more flexible.

I had to remove and resolder an EMW3165, pin pitch 1mm, that took awhile
