Thanks. That's useful info on how to connect everything.
Now I just have to chose a usb to ttl adapter.
Would I be able to use USB (5.2V) as a power supply or do I need buy something for that as well?

Hello, I have one of those usb adapters but I use it for esp8266 01 not 14. They are made for 01 if you can see they have two rows of four pins, esp8266 01 is built like that.
Although you could connect esp8266 14 with wires, I am not sure haven't tried ( I am sure you could get it to work) but in my opinion it would be easier to follow a known path of programming esp8266 14, maybe a tutorial with advice which usb device is best. That way you could avoid a lot of headaches.
