ESP8266 internal + external reset

Hi everyone, its nice to be a member here again.
I was hoping someone with a little more experience could help me, I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I have an unfinished project that I would like to complete, what I'm missing is a circuitry that will allow me
to wake my ESP8266 device via an external reset whilst keeping the ability to wake it up internally with GPIO16.
I'm making a sort of a dooralarm/temperature monitor. I have studied the circuitry provided by Chaeplin over here
What I can't get working is this circuitry together with the GPIO16 attached to RST via a resistor directly.
Can someone help me?
This project will be simple in operation:
* Every hour check temperature and state of 1 gpio (is door locked or not)
* Upon door opening, check door state, check temperature, sleep for 5 minutes, repeat once, sleep untill next hour of cycle or event
