Interfacing ESP8266 with 2.8 TFT Toush Shield

I have this LCD screen:
I want to connect it with ESP8266 in order to be able to utilize it using the Adafruit library. I have this version of ESP8266:
I have read somewhere that it is not possible. However, I am just interested in the display feature of the LCD. I do not care about the touch screen or the SD card. Is it possible in someway to make it work?
P.S. It is the only option available for me now since there is no distributor for something like TJCTM24028-SPI 2.8″ TFT where I live.
