Could it be that one of the GPIO pins goes HIGH when the connection is lost?

It might be connected to a common ground and shorts out when the pin goes HIGH.

Hi,
I have the same with my two ESP8266-03. They got hot very quickly. All GPIO's have pullup of 10k.
At the first one WIFI is no more possible.
At the second one TxD seems destroyed.
Anyone an idea?
