Recently I got my hands on a couple of ESP-03 modules to play around with. As well creating the obligatory wireless temperature logger I took one into my place of work to run through our industrial X-Ray machine, perhaps a few of you are interested in the results.

Of note is the make-up of the ceramic antenna, the black dots are 'vias', the diagonal wires are towards the bottom of the antenna and the horizontal ones at the top. What look like holes in the ESP8266 are a random collection of ground vias and the internals of the flash are plain to see.

At 60 Degrees you can better see the make-up of the ceramic antenna + the vias between PCB layers

With a close-up of the die you can just make out the wire bonds between the die (innermost square) and the pads.
The larger two squares are the copper pad on the bottom of the chip and the copper pad on the PCB

Enjoy :)
