GPIO0 & GPIO2 on ESP01

I was trying to use GPIO0 & GPIO2 on an ESP01 (to drive a TM1637 display).
This works nicely on a Wroom on D5-D6 for example.
However, when I program the sketch (I use Arduino IDE), the ESP continuously reboots.
I know : the ESP8266 modules with pins exposed are cheap, but the ESP01 is much smaller and I happen to have a few hanging.
My (ntp clock) program works fine on the ESP01 if I don't try to assign GPIO2.
I think it's a known problem but I can't locate accurate information.
