ESP-12 with external antenna?

Is it possible to connect an external antenna to the ESP-12 version for longer range? In a recent order, I received some ESP-12 modules as well as a few external antennas. It looks like the connector on the antennas is the same as the connector on the ESP-07, but I see no such connector on the ESP-12.
Is there a way to connect an external antenna? Do I need to scrape the solder mask off on the onboard antenna and wire directly into that? Some other way maybe?

No, ESP-12 is PCB antenna only.

The ESP-12 is literally an ESP-07 with the external antenna and chip antenna removed, with a PCB antenna in it's place. Why not just buy ESP-07 modules?

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that was the case.
I actually only ordered the antennas on a whim because they were supposedly supported by the ESP-12. I don't really need them for any current project. I'm actually waiting on a much larger order of the new ESPD-12 (4 megabyte flash version of ESP-12) that I'll be using as the basis for my future projects.
I was just curious if I could utilize my antennas at all. If I end up needing them, I'll order a few ESP-07s.
