I am working on a Dev Kit called NodeUSB, it is ESP8266 based board+enclosure+sensors, and plan to launch in KickStarter soon.

Would like to hear feedback from you guys in this forum. ( You guys are awesome! )
Here is the preview link:

(The picture above shows ESP-03, I am planning to switch to ESP-12 and use 2 USB females to get more GPIOs out)

Thanks a lot!

That's a neat project. However, using a USB connector to connect data lines that are not USB irks me. Guaranteed to get someone plugging in a normal USB device and having a bad time.

Surely there's a different 4 pin plug/socket that you could use instead?

I understand the concern, however, I tested before to see if there was any problem, I plugged into my Laptop, just an error message showing not able to recognize the device. Nothing major.
Do you know if it can cause major damage in certain scenario?

Also, second version I am working on, include 4 pins (3.3v, TX/RX, Gnd) on the PCB, so if someone would like to connect directly, they can do so.

The main reason to use the USB male plug: To get the power. (When you finish debugging and let it running 24x7 )

Any other good alternatives of 4 pins connectors ?

And it is a 'staff pick' !
