Homemade PCB and ESP-12

Usually I make my own, homemade PCBs for my projects. They don't have solder mask, so tinned surface of copper layer is exposed. If higher voltages are present, I cover PCB with isolating varnish at most.
Now I have question. Is it allowed to leave GND plane underneath ESP-12 module and/or put some traces there (of course excluding area directly beneath WiFi antenna)? Is bottom side of ESP module properly isolated, or are there some exposed vias or small pads, that may cause short circuit?
