Which regulator would you suggest me for an IoT project ?

Hey,

I'm building a system based on ESP12-E so to measure temp, hum and send it to a distant server. Until now, I'm still sending it to Thingspeak servers, just to make sure the hardware is stable. So if you need help with this, just leave me a message.

This far, I've been using a stabilised generator, and I'm thinking of switching to batteries. I think I'd need a regulator so to protect the chip, but I'm afraid some regulators would just pull too much current and reduce the autonomy.

So the question is : which regulator would you suggest me for an IoT project ?

If you need some regulator with low quiescent current, the SPX3819 consume only 90μA.
I've received some, but didn't get chance to try them out with an ESP yet.

Torex has some good regulators: http://www.torexsemi.com/products/voltage_regulators/
e.g. XC6203 with a typ. supply current of 8uA. SOT-89 regulators can be soldered directly to the white ESP-12 breakout PCBs.

There's also a huge thread on battery power on this forum, that you should defininately check out.

martinayotte, lethe, thank you for the fast replies. I'll definitely look into your recommandations.

I've been searching over Internet for regulator with low quiescent (ground) current, the following seemed to be a good choice too :
- AP7333 : Ig = 80µA, Iout = 300mA, Vin = 2V -> 6V
- AP7361 : Ig = 90µA, Iout = 1A, Vin = 2.2V -> 6V
- LD1086 : Ig = 10mA, Iout = 1.5A
- MCP1703 : Ig = 10µA, Iout = 200mA, Vin = 2.7V -> 16V
- BD733L5FP : Ig = 15µA, Iout = 500mA,
- TC2117 : Ig = 130µA, Iout = 800mA, Vin = 5V -> 6.5V
- MIC5209 : Ig = 150µA, Iout = 700mA, Vin = 2.5V -> 16V

Those are mean values.
