Problems flashing the MOD-WIFI-ESP8266_DEV

Hello,
I have been using a NodeMCU board for prototyping. I now would like to use a MOD-WIFI-ESP8266-DEV module, but unfortunately I am unable to flash it with the program (written in C).
I have assembled a small circuit on a breadboard using a USB-to-TTL adapter and always experience the problem that I can't flash the device.
So first I'd like to make sure that my small circuit is ok - I have found several tutorials how to connect the module to the USB-TTL-adapter, using push buttons for booting and setting the module into flash mode.
Can anybody point me to a "fail-safe" tutorial where I can absolutely be sure to do the right thing for flashing?
If you need any configuration infos just ask.
Thanx a lot,
Rudi
