ESP8266 NodeMcu V1.0 and ESP Basic Flashable?

The more i look around on the interwebs, the more i'm liking the ESP8266.
Just looking at this on Ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lua-NodeMCU-E ... 1949095156
Can this be flashed with ESP Basic and still be fully functional?
I'm really looking for something like this with a number of programmable I/O ports so i can connect things like relays/SSR/PIR sensors/Light sensors/db18b20 temp sensors (can multiple be chained?)/mains LED light dimmers, etc.
As ESP Basic looks so much like the old Sinclair ZX Basic i used to use (and love) it seems to be much easier and friendly than Lua or whatever else the other firmware(s) use.
Thanks for help already provided on my first post, which is currently spurring me on to looking at the possibilities for this module.
