#61894 Hello all,

This is my first time using an ESP8266. I purchased 4 ESP-01 modules and have had a very difficult time getting started. I also purchased a 3.3V FTDI cable to program.

I've spent a lot of time reading and have unfortunately gotten nowhere. I followed AllAboutCircuit's article here on flashing the module. I have never produced a successful flash and am becoming increasingly lost in what to do.

Ideally, I would like to use the board with a magnetic reed switch to send a simple signal to a linux box in my house detecting whether or not a door is open.

However for right now I really just want a "Hello world" level of satisfaction in getting one of these boards to function appropriately. Allegedly that is sending AT commands over serial to the board and receiving a response.

Attached is my current serial feedback in PuTTY using the latest Non-OS firmware and following the aforementioned guide. I should also mention I am using an external 3.3V supply because I am told the FTDI cable may not supply enough current. In addition, I can only receive at 78440 baud. It was programmed at 115200.

I'm really not sure where to go from here so I immensely appreciate any assistance. This has been a very frustrating past month. I figured it was time to ask pointedly.

Cheers,
Chris
