First, I like this forum for newbie. When two people start a technical conversation, most of the beginning is getting terminology right or maybe better said on the same page. For me it will be more of the former.

Just started looking at the ESP8266 after getting interested in the Open Garage. I actually bought a dev board by mistake one time. Long story. Anyway started with the hello world and got the blue led flashing. :-)
So now I am trying to understand more. So I been digging into the ESP8266 and looking at the Open Garage code. Looks like it uses HTTP commands with params for actions. There is a password as part of the parms, but would this not be in the clear? Could someone skim it?
How secure is the communications? Someone open my garage door by spoofing the IP once the password has been skimmed? The ESP8266 can be locked down to one IP.
