Node mcu versions and TTL voltage tolerance

Hi there,

I am pretty confused with these boards and need your help to clarify it.

Node mcu board v0.9 and v1.0 are pretty similar, the only difference is the usb controller? Are there any other differences?

Pictures: v0.9
v1.0

Also I am curoios about TTL voltage, I see that esp operates on 3.3v logic, am I allowed to connect sensors from arduino wich are 5v ttl? Will that destroy the board? In order to drop down the logic voltage, may I connect in series 3 diodes in order to provide a voltage drop ~1.8v?

thanks :)

Also some pins are different.
No, espressif clearly states that esp8266 is not 5V compatible.
Most of the sensors will work at 3.3V.
