Cloning an ESP8266 to make an exact copy for backup

Hello all,
I have no idea how to write this noob question or what info is required, but Ill try:
I have been searching the net for a solution , but as yet zero result.
Q.
Is it at all possible to clone the ESP8266 to a blank (for lack of a better word) version.??
The to be cloned 8266 is soldered to a circuit board (not really removable).
RS232 inputs to this board are: Rx +12VDC and Earth, incorporated is a 3.3V supply for the 8266.
I have the Arduino SDK installed in Win7, an Arduino Leonardo board, jumpers, esp-01 adapter and a couple of never used esp8266 units
What I don't have is any program data, hence the cloning idea..
The extend of my experience with Arduino is to make a couple of leds flash.-> iow Virtually nothing
Many thanks for any answers
