Solid blue light and board no longer responds to flashing

Hi,
I've been playing with a NodeMCU dev board on and off and never had any issues with flashing. I'm using PlatformIO through VSCode.
Today, I think I made the mistake of having 7V supplied to the VIN and then also connecting the USB. On my board, a solid blue light now shows and the WiFi module heats up. I'm unable to flash the board.
I did a test of the reset button's behaviour, by measuring the drop in resistance (described on another forum I think), but holding that down and plugging in the USB had no effect.
Does anyone know what the light means? I've attached a photo. Is the board dead?
Thanks,
Tom
