Where to find AT firmware and how to use esptool

I am confused by so many tutorials that have broken links or are outdated. I have an Adafruit Huzzah and just want to flash the standard ESP8266 AT firmware onto it. I am running on a Mac with FTDI cable and thinkni need to use esptool.py, but I don’t understand what next.
