Using water sensor that may be submerged, short protection?

Playing around with Funduino water sensor. I have an application where the entire Funduino may be underwater. Presently my circuit only has three wires between the ESP8266 and the sensor. 3.3V, GND, A0. My fear is that once submerged, the 3.3v will effectively be connected directly to the GND though the water reaching the top of the sensor board. I'm thinking that is a bad thing. As a complete noob, I figure I need to add something to the circuit I just don't know what. Maybe direct connection from 3.3V to GND isn't an issue?
