Esp-01 no open ports, no http

I just powered up a wifi relay module: I connected my phone to the AP, I can ping 192.168.4.1 but I can't send an http request. The scanner says no port is open.
AFAIK, I should been able to establish an http connection to 192.168.4.1 and even soft change the parameters to use it as a client, without flashing.
I have no clue..this is the first time I handle this...any hint?
