ESP 8266 error

I was trying to make a Wifi temperature sensor using arduino and ESP 8266ex module. I made the connections of esp8266 according to the website and when I switch on the power supply (Arduino) , the esp 8266 turns on red led but when I try to make blink test using arduino software I get error "espcomm_upload_mem failed".
*I am using arduino software and have installed esp8266 board on it.
*I used the ex code which is built in and also tried the original code but the same problem accurs.
Please guide me as I am still new to electronics.
