I have connected GPOIO16 with RST to enable wakeup from deep sleep. This works fine, except the board requires a manual reset the first time after power off or uploading new code. This happens every time. What can I do to avoid this?

How did you connect GPIO16 to RST?
You should ideally use a schottky diode between the two (cathode to GPIO16 and anode to RST). :idea:
