A colleague and I are seeing similar behavior with regards to disconnected RX/TX - really odd.
As soon as RX/TX are disconnected the controller seems to be in some kind of panic mode. It doesn't react to input on the GPIO pins anymore, the tiny test HTTP server is no longer accessible and the blue LED on the ESP-201 blinks like crazy.
The behavior is the same if it's rebooted without RX/TX connected.
When RX/TX are connected to USB via FT232RL we also connect GND from the FT232RL to GND on the breadboard. If GND is disconnected while the ESP is running its blue LED also starts blinking but at a much slower rate and the controller/firmware is still responsive. What are the explanations for this?
