ESP8266 Community Forum

- Wed Oct 07, 2015 1:01 pm #30814 Hi, I have been following an installation tutorial from Easyiot and it seems to be out of date because it says select the esptool in programmers menu, I have downloaded the latest Esp8266/arduino software and used board manager to install boards but there is no esptool in the programmer menu, some say you don't need it anymore, if this is the case which programmer do you select ?

- Wed Oct 07, 2015 5:53 pm #30841 From your post it looks as though you are using the Adruino IDE with ESP8266 support loaded. I this case just use the Upload button on the toolbar. Works for me

- Wed Oct 07, 2015 5:59 pm #30842 Effectively ! There is no needs to use Programmer menu, it is simply ignored since uploads are always done by esptool.

Thanks for your reply, I figured it out in the end, just having problems with ftdi adapters now and getting esp8266 flashed.
