Just compiled blink to check my tool chain works. Binary sketch size: 197,420 bytes (used 38% of a 524,288 byte maximum) (10.93 secs)

Is something wrong here? Seems to be using a huge amount of memory. Probably not a big problem for me as over 300K free is fine for me.

Same values on my system.
"Der Sketch verwendet 197.420 Bytes (37%) des Programmspeicherplatzes. Das Maximum sind 524.288 Bytes."
Only funny, thats its only 37%
10 sec should only be for the first time, you started the IDE.
As I know, there is the whole "ESP-System" (~200k) implemented on compiling

my ESP8266: ESP-01 V2 / ESP-12E (NodeMCU)
ESP8266 Arduino add-on
Arduino IDE 1.6.5
