Firmware recomedation for NodeMCU (ESP-12E)

What is the recommended firmware for NodeMCU (ESP-12E) in order to make use of the
Arduino IDE and related libraries.
I have installed the firmware which contains LUA interpreter but I do not use LUA so it might be probably better to install something smaller. I presume that the firmware occupies Flash memory so when the firmware is smaller than I have more space for sketch programs.
