[SETTINGS], Passwords and Personal Hotspots

Went into [SETTINGS] and put in a Name in "Ap mode (ESP brocast out its own ap)"
Then put a password in and hit Save. But later, found out that I had a problem because lol my password was 6 characters, and the instructions said, "Must be at least 8 characters". The bug is that it let me save an invalid password. There should be a user message to the effect that "INVALID PASSWORD".
And now, looking at this [SETTINGS] page more, I see that the word "brocast" in that setting has a typo and should be spelled, "broadcast", and the "Ap" on that line should really be both capital letters: "AP".
But, looking more, I really do not understand the 4 lines under "IP Address (Station or AP mode)" - - Is this really meant to be STATIC IP Address setting? If so the word "STATIC" should definitely be there. Are any of those 4 entries OPTIONAL? If so, which ones? For example, should it say, "Default gateway (optional)" ? Or should it say "Default gateway (required)" ? I tried to give my nodemcu a static IP for my IPHONE Personal Hotspot by filling out these four fields, but certainly did not succeed, since I could only access my nodemcu using the IP Address it got via DHCP from my Personal Hotspot.
Has anyone ever been able to assign a static IP address to an IPHONE Personal Hotspot?
