I have just tried both the stable and unstable versions of the loader on an ESP-12 and cannot get past setup. I get what looks like a programmed chip despite no progress indication during flashing - but at the end a load of periods and an exclamation mark - this is on a fully functioning ESP12 which I've programmed loads of times.

When I press reset, I get a counter going from 1 to 10 - then a watchdog reset and some debug info.. If I look at my mobile it says there is an ESP access point and connects to it - but connecting to 192.168.4.1 gets me no-where.

Can't get any further forward.

as MMISCOOL said, you can format with the ESP_Basic_Flasher.exe utility.
Select the port, the memory size and press "Format Flash"

After the format, you must reprogram again.

As alternative, you can still use 1M or 2M version on a 4M (with less memory available for files)

I DID do the formatting first!

Have you tried with another size bin ? (1M, for example ?)

I had the same problem as you and It was fixed doing the format
