RAM is quite limited in ESP8266. The article below explains tricks that can be used to get extra free RAM.

It should work for both NONOS and FreeRTOS SDKs.

The server is misconfigured.
It's enforcing HTTPS, but does not send the required intermediate certificate, this will cause errors with many browsers.
