- Sun Sep 07, 2014 6:49 pm #342 Espressif provided reference designs for those $3 modules. They came with Gerber's etc.... Very easy to slap together.

No one is going to redesign the module, engineer a shield, pay for FCC/CE/RoHS certification, package and ship for $4.00. They would probably need to sell 25,000 modules just to break even. Certified modules are going to cost significantly more than $4.

- Sun Sep 07, 2014 7:52 pm #343 Bah! These guys specialize in low margin. Add a few pads for the shield and there's probably an existing die that fits well enough. As long as they cover testing and additional bom costs they'll probably be willing to do it.
