Just to help, the link to the upload tool, esptool.py, on github is here: https://github.com/themadinventor/esptool
And it seems that the latest AT firmware - the standard firmware that provides 'AT' modem-like commands, is here: http://bbs.espressif.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=64
I still haven't found a basic 'getting started' guide - I'll go look again and if I can't find one, I'll make a start on creating one.
Hopefully by the time I have finished I will be given contribute access to the wiki and there it can be found easily.
