#49194 Hi there,

I want to equip my house with a couple of cameras, they should be small and connected to WIFI.
I thought it's somehow possible with Arduinos or ESP8266s, but it seems not as the interface is too slow as far as I understood, especially for streaming.

Can anyone enlighten me what exactly this depends on? I'm a bit confused. How does this widely used arducam work then?

I read that the alternatives are using a raspberry pi (would need an additional wifi board/dongle) or a cheap and small router that can be flashed with openWRT.

What would you guys suggest if you want to keep it small (although quality should be okay) and connected to WIFI?

Thanks a lot for your help,
Christoph

#49439 Effectively, ESP8266 is too slow for camera application, not powerful enough, even if some people got Arducam working, it provide only a very low frame rate.
You are better using some OpenWRT modules (or cheap Pi compatible such OrangePi-Lite) where you can simply attached an USB Webcam on it.

#49442 Thanks for the clarification!

I guess to stay as compact as possible one of these USB sticks that can run openwrt is the best solution? I think I saw it somewhere it was very cheap, but can't remember..
For the Pi I would need a separate WIFI dongle
