I wanted to create a measurement device to perfectly align a high gain antenna towards a distant access point to connect it later to a router or other device to realize the wifi uplink.
for now I'm using
cnlohr's wifirxpower - A Linux-based WiFi RX Power Grapher which is another amazing tool he built <3 thank you @cnlohr!
I guess I will stick with that since it provides a perfect visualization of the RSSI and it gets super fast readings. my guess would be 10-20x per second.
it should also be possible to only associate with an AP without authenticate by killing NetworkManager & wpa_supplicant and firing up this line:
Code: Select allsudo iwconfig wlan0 essid YourWifiSSID ap DE:FE:CA:DE:DE:EB for completeness, here is a screenshot of the tool beeing used to allign the antenna.
