may I ask if anyone of you has an idea how to associate with an AP without authenticate with it?

My intention is to get fast RSSI readings which seem only possible in a associated state.
as I read from the forums, a full scan takes to long since all channels are crawled.

- Thu Sep 22, 2016 3:38 am #55491 I wanted to create a measurement device to perfectly align a high gain antenna towards a distant access point to connect it later to a router or other device to realize the wifi uplink.

for now I'm using cnlohr's wifirxpower - A Linux-based WiFi RX Power Grapher which is another amazing tool he built <3 thank you @cnlohr!

I guess I will stick with that since it provides a perfect visualization of the RSSI and it gets super fast readings. my guess would be 10-20x per second.

it should also be possible to only associate with an AP without authenticate by killing NetworkManager & wpa_supplicant and firing up this line:
