I've been fighting getting an ESP8266-201 working and finally found a step by step using the 'Official' ESP8266 download tool. I downloaded it and following direction found that the 201 was returning all the information it was suppose to, unlike every other tool I've tried.
As you can see the DETECTED INFO says the QUAD 4Mbit device is there.
Here is the problem I'm having, all the AT image downloads say:
"Since this ESP8266_AT_v0.51, AT firmware is too large to fit in 4Mbit (512KB) Flash. Please use 8Mbit (1MB) or larger Flash."
This is the oldest AT image they have posted, does this mean all modules from 01~201 or with 512K bytes, 4Mbits are dead? I have nothing that I can find to load into the 201 that does anything but loop
