Hi,

It would be great to have a 'Start here' section here, for those who just purchased an ESP8266, and might not have background on all aspects.

Start out with the different module types, pin layouts, FTDI and other hookup diagrams.
Then explain the differences between the firmware available, like what is the 'AT' firmware, and what can be done with the 'IoT' firmware, what is LUA and such.
Also a list of development options, and SDK's. Most who are not coming from linux background, just stare at the GIT and all the commands.
I downloaded an unofficial SDK, with eclipse, but there are just so many things to set, that i got completely lost.
Is there an option to write our code, then run an assembler then a compiler and upload the binary?
I also see some usage of python, while the SDK promises C coding. So what language are the libraries written that are available?
I heard there is a VM with a working development system (couldn't download it yet, a working mirror would be great)

Sorry for writing so much green stuff here, if i would know all the answers for these, i would have created the start here post myself...

thx,
Edocecrous

Ok,

I stand corrected... Somehow i missed the 'New Wiki...', still there might be some things that could be detailed, like what does the IoT firmware does, how can we use it?

thx,
