Flashing the ESP-03

I recently recieved 3 ESP-03 boards in the mail. After soldering headers onto all 3 of them and having none of them work I am convinced I need to flash them with new firmware. I have searched around on many different resources and I can't seem to find a straightforward guide as to what needs to be done. This is my first time working with the ESP board so any and all relevant information is welcome.

Everyone keeps referring me to this thread but it isnt giving me all the info I need. It tells me everything I need to know about the hardware but nothing about what needs to be done on the computer side of things. Is there some kind of generic guide for flashing microprocessors or are they all different? This is my first time doing something this advanced so I'm having some trouble understanding the process.
