If it's possible to program the internal MCU...

It will be great if it's possible to program the internal MCU, and have some I/O ports available.
So we can have only one chip controlling communication, user processing and I/O.
Don't you think?

From what it looks like you will always need 2, the ESP8266 itself and an external boot flash. Is this what you mean?

Not exactly. Comparing with nRF24LE1 (I know this is just RF, not WIFI), I want to know if this ESP8266 has some embedded MCU that can be programmed. If this is possible, we don't need any external MCU.

So your answer is the ESP8266 has embedded processor and DRAM and WIFI and I/O all in one IC... keep reading :-)
