Connecting the Gikfun breakout board?

Hi folks!

I've bought a few different ESP8266 configurations and I'm really excited to work on them :)

One of them is a fairly well-populated board from Gikfun:

I haven't had any luck talking to it or powering it - anyone have some tips/ideas?

AFAIR, those boards ship with an IOT firmware installed. Open the yellow jumper to use it, or close the jumper to upload another firmware. Make sure you use at least a 5V wall adapter like a cellphone charger before you try AA batteries. Here's a thread mentioning it:

Awesome, thanks! I was powering it by connecting the 3.3V pins on one of my random FTDI breakouts. I'll try applying 5V to the AA inputs instead.
