Multiple nodemcu and neopixel devices with one power supply

I want to power supply 5 identical devices. each one is a esp8266 nodemcu driving a 16 led neopixel ring
I have a 5v 5a power supply connected to VIN of the 1st device
So + and - of both esp and neopixels are connected together
Each device is connected to the next one in a daisy chain with a cable
For unknown reason the 1st device behaves randomly and doesn't work as expected but the others are fine
If I switch the position in the chain to another device the new one turns wrong and all the others work fine.
The problem is not one device compare to another but being in "first place"
I don't understand what I am doing wrong
