LUA, how to store settings ?

Sorry, maybe I'm not on the right forum (but I'm not allowed on the LUA forum).
I want to svae the settings of IO-pins in LUA.
Now I can store and retrieve these settings from a file, but that looks quite an overkill to me.
Is there a way to store these kind of settings in flash directly /
