#16873 Lets say that I have a house that is 2 floors, the wifi router is on 1st floor. I presently do not have good access/reception of wifi on 2nd floor.

Can I use the esp8266 to improve the signal on the 2nd floor by placing an esp8266 in between floors that would allow the person on the 2nd floor to access the internet better. I am a bit confused given the scenerio, should I be looking for a repeater, AP, bridge and if the esp8266 can fully transfer data for all WAN/LAN usage such as emails, web surfing, youtube. If ESP8266 is capable of doing this, what mode should I set it up as...

Given the above scenerio, assume only the wifi router is wired, no other ethernet cables available.

Thanks for the clarification

#17213 Thanks John,
I don't doubt that it is not possible. As I have been playing around with it.
Couple question of clarification for learning purposes.

When in Mode=3, so the AP side is a client to my router, I set up another ESP as AP client to the 1st ESP , now Can computers on my LAN attached to the router, see the 2nd ESP? Another way to ask, are the two networks, (AP, Station) interconnected on the LAN or are they separate networks?

Also, when the ESP is connected as a AP, is it only a client to my router, and it itself is NOT a AP for other clients??

Thanks for any clarification..

I suggest a TP-702 or similar router (very cheap) with Tomato or DD-WRT firmware. I have done numerous variations of these.

Cheers,
John

Thank you. Now how about the long answer, like for example "why" and so? Up to now, I only tried the AT.
