ESP8266 01 antenna alignment

But it has set me wondering, and rather than spend a lot of time experimenting, i thought I'd ask first!
IS there any difference between horizontal and vertical alignment of the 01 board antenna as far as performance goes? does it depend on the alignment of my wifi router antenna, which is vertical, or is that not a factor?
